How do I improve my Internet Reliability?

The current version of Kitchen Display uses Internet to communicate with the Clover Station.  If the store's WiFi Internet connection is unstable or disrupted, the Kitchen Display will not receive orders.




How do I diagnose if I have an Internet connection problem?

Measure your bandwidth speed on the Internet

  1. Access https://speedtest.xfinity.com at the Android device browser
  2. Click "Start" to run the test. Try it several times

If it exceeds 0.5 Mbps regularly, then you should have sufficient bandwidth to run the Kitchen Display app.   If it doesn't, you should begin diagnosing the source of the bandwidth limitations.

How to improve an unstable store WiFi network?

If you find that the Kitchen Display tablet does not have a strong or consistent WiFi connection you may have signal interference in your store.   There are a few simple steps below you can take to improve your store's WiFi network.
  1. Re-position the WiFi router so that it's high off the ground and not blocked by furniture or metal walls.  More details on this WiFi positioning article.
  2. Reduce signal interference by changing the WiFi channel with tools like WiFi Analyzer for Android or the WiFi Helper for Windows.

What to do when our Internet connection goes down?

You can continue to use the kitchen printers during an Internet outage.  In addition, you can purchase on-demand, back-up Internet without a subscription from several mobile Internet providers for modest up-front cost. These options do not require an on-going contract:
Straight Talk: $79 one-time device cost.  As low as $15/month.
Verizon Prepaid Mifi: $75 one-time device cost. As low as $15/week.
